The Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station in Seattle has earned ENR West Northwest’s Best Water/Environment Award.
According to ENR West, “Projects were evaluated on the ability of the project team to overcome challenges, their contribution to the industry and community, safety and construction and design quality.”
The facility reduces untreated sewage and stormwater entering Seattle’s Lower Duwamish River by 95% and can process up to 70 million gallons daily, protecting both the river and Puget Sound.
Key environmental features:
- More than 85% of demolition materials diverted from landfills
- Reduced chemical use at the facility
- Permeable pavement, green roofs, roadside rain gardens and cisterns
- Restored shoreline along the Duwamish River
