As part of the construction of the new Île d'Orléans Bridge, a major operation was carried out at dawn -- the relocation of the cofferdam superstructure of the main north pier on the Saint Lawrence River, using specially designed barges and a lifting system.
Weighing more than 800 tons, this superstructure, manufactured by Canam, showcases the local expertise mobilized for this significant project by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
A cofferdam isolates an area by temporarily holding back water to create a dry work environment, allowing work that would otherwise be impossible or extremely complicated under submerged conditions. This operation does not damage the riverbed and was carried out with the protection of the aquatic environment in mind.
The Groupe Héritage Île d'Orléans consortium, comprised of FlatironDragados and EBC Inc., is building the new île d’Orléans bridge in Quebec, enhancing travel for the local community. This major milestone involved all teams, each contributing to the safety and precision of the necessary maneuvers.
