Students explore our industry and enjoy delicious snacks.
The construction industry requires a broad range of skills, from preconstruction and project controls to accounting, human resources, and payroll.
“For some of these students, it’s their first time hearing that they can pursue careers beyond construction worker,” says Project Manager Victoria Garcia. “I believe that opens their eyes to wider career paths.”
Garcia and Senior Accounts Payable Specialist Kellie Fernandez recently participated in a career day event at Anne Frank High School in San Antonio.
In addition to discussing career paths, the duo handed out dessert cups that creatively explained the world of paving. Each snack section symbolized a concrete layer—chocolate chip cookies represented Portland, while Oreo cookies represented asphalt.
Not surprisingly, Fernandez noted the students loved the FlatironDragados exhibit. “They were delighted to receive a sweet treat and were curious about how much of each layer to put in their cups. They enjoyed assembling the different layers and textures.”
