Technical Services Manager Gonzalo Osborne has long been fascinated by the intricate interplay of engineering and architecture. He spends his days immersed in construction, but for the past three years he has devoted many evenings and weekends to a passion project: collaborating with the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering.
Collaborating with more than 30 engineers from around the globe, Gonzalo became a core member of IABSE Commission 4, a group focused on advancing bridge construction methods. The team set out to develop a comprehensive guide that could serve as a practical resource for engineers worldwide.
Their work culminated in the book, “Bridge Construction Methods: Essentials and Critical Lessons, Practitioners’ Perspectives.”
“Gonzalo brings technical depth to bridge construction, and this publication will be a practical reference the industry can use for years. We’re proud to see his expertise helping raise the bar for how complex bridges get built,” said Dr. Taner Aydogmus, VP, Technical Services.
As one of three editors, Gonzalo contributed extensive reviews and input across chapters, helping shape the publication’s practitioner-focused lessons and guidance.
For Gonzalo, the publication reflects more than two decades in the heavy civil industry and a commitment to strengthening the profession for the next generation. He hopes the guide will help teams address the challenges that come with constructing signature bridges.
