2028Project Overview
The North Coast Corridor project is a comprehensive transportation improvement initiative enhancing mobility along San Diego County’s northern coastline. The FlatironDragados, Skanska and Stacy Witbeck joint venture is leading key infrastructure upgrades to modernize rail, highway and active transportation facilities with a strong focus on sustainability.
Delivered under a Construction Manager/General Contractor model, the project includes building new carpool lanes and new rail bridges along Interstate 5. To complete a continuous double track along the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo coastal rail, it will replace a single-track rail bridge with a double-track bridge.
The project also will:
- Improve drainage systems
- Add 4.2 miles of rail tracks to support increased passenger and freight capacity
- Build new multimodal connections to promote long-term environmental resilience
Sustainability is at the project’s core, with efforts to protect coastal habitats, improve stormwater management and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through enhanced transit options.
