2036Project Overview
The 120-year-old Susquehanna River Bridge will undergo significant improvements and refurbishments to support this dynamic rail project. The project will replace the existing 2-track bridge with four total tracks across two new bridges and modernize rail infrastructure including track, overhead catenary/power and signals.
Once completed, the new Susquehanna River Rail Bridge will:
- Allow for increased train speeds
- Decrease trip times
- Mitigate potential conflicts with maritime traffic
The new bridge will improve safety and reliability for commuter, freight and intercity passenger rail services on the Northeast Corridor, which is the most heavily used passenger rail line in the United States. Now in the design phase, major construction is expected to begin in late 2025.
