Northern California’s I-80 Yolo Corridor Improvements earned the Caltrans “Partnering Success in Motion” Gold Award in the Projects Greater Than $50 Million, recognizing the collaboration that supported its successful delivery.
Now complete and open to traffic, the project adds approximately 10 miles of tolled express lanes between Sacramento and Davis to reduce congestion and travel times, improve transit reliability and support more efficient travel.
Additional improvements include new pavement, structural upgrades to existing bicycle and pedestrian paths and intelligent transportation systems. Fiber-optic infrastructure, vehicle-detection technology and changeable message signs will help manage traffic and support incident response.
Crews placed more than 112,000 cubic yards of concrete and 212,000 tons of asphalt. They used continuous nighttime lane reductions on eastbound I-80 to complete the work while minimizing daytime traffic impacts.
Originally opened in 1916, the Yolo Causeway remains a critical transportation link along I-80 in Northern California.
