he Upper San Leandro Water Treatment Plant in Oakland, California, has earned the 2025 United Contractors Recognizing Excellence, Awareness and Leadership in Safety Award in the Most Unique Safety Project category.
The UCON R.E.A.L. Safety Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to protecting their workforce and building a culture where safety comes first. Judges reviewed submissions anonymously and selected winners based on demonstrated excellence in safety leadership, awareness and performance. This year's recognition is especially meaningful, with one of the largest applicant pools in the program's history.
FlatironDragados is upgrading the nearly 100-year-old treatment plant while keeping it fully operational. The work will improve water quality, modernize aging infrastructure and strengthen the facility's long-term reliability for East Bay communities. One innovative feature is the 165-foot-diameter compression ring, among the largest in the world.
Congratulations to everyone who made this achievement possible. Your commitment to safety continues to set a strong example for our industry.
